Tech Tips

Installation of 2000-Up Softail Lowering Kit

First remove the shocks from the bike.

Losen the jam nut at the top of the shock.

Then place one shock in a shock compression tool or a press.

Then compress the shock until you can remove the snap ring.

Then release the presure off the shock.

Remove the top of the shock from the housing.

Then remove the center shock post.

This is what it will look like once removed.

Then remove the stock shaft from the shock cap and remove

the large nut from the shaft to use with the new kit.

The new shaft is on the left.

Place the original large jam nut on the new shaft.

Screw the new shaft into the shock top cap.

Screw the top cap back onto the center shock shaft.

Be sure to tighten the top cap to the center shaft.

This is how it will look once tight.

Now tighten the large jam nut against the shock cap.

Now place the shock back into the tool or press so you can

compress the shock and return the snap ring into place.

Remove the shock from the tool and repeat the steps for

the second shock. When finished this is what you will have.
